About

Ottawa's Karate Authority Since 1984

What started with two brothers and a single dojo is now the largest martial arts organization in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. 10 locations, 100+ certified black belt instructors, and a 40-year reputation built on discipline and results.

Douvris Martial Arts history

From One Dojo to Ottawa's Largest Martial Arts Organization

In 1984, karate champions Master Sensei John Douvris and Master Sensei Peter Douvris opened their first dojo on Bank Street with a mission to bring professional, structured martial arts training to Ottawa. Over four decades, that single dojo grew into 10 locations spanning the region.

Inwardly Humble, Outwardly Gentle

At Douvris, martial arts training is a vehicle for personal development. The discipline, focus, and resilience built on the mat carry directly into everyday life. Our Striving for Excellence curriculum teaches values alongside technical skills.
